[The LOdown] Are Heavy Metals to Blame for Hormone Problems?

In small amounts most heavy metals are safe for us. They are naturally found in the soil and are a natural substance. However, in larger quantities they can become toxic. They can impede cellular function, thereby impacting processes like metabolism, energy and fertility. One study compared 82 infertile and 42 pregnant women in the US and found positive associations between blood concentrations of lead and cadmium and women’s infertility. Lead and cadmium are two very common metals found in everyday foods like protein powders, dark chocolate and spices. In this episode I discuss the many implications that heavy metal exposure can have on reproductive health, thyroid function and metabolism. Tune in to learn more!
