Hi, all welcome to the, Your Nutrition BFF Podcast. I’m your host Lauren Papanos, a Functional Registered Dietitian nutritionist and the owner of Functional Fueling Nutrition. I wanted to start off with this first episode, really giving you a background on my practice, my backgrounds, and then providing you with some context and information about what to expect out of this podcast. So a little bit about myself. I am a registered dietitian nutritionist. I went to school to become one and have both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nutritional sciences. When I was in my graduate program, I was fortunate to have a mentor who taught me all things functional medicine, and she did her training under Dr.
Kailash. And I was able to benefit quite immensely from everything that she taught me. I also did a internship at the Institute of lifestyle, family, preventative medicine, and started to really explore the idea of functional medicine. At the time I was dealing with my own hormone issues and was trying to understand how I could heal them naturally, and was very frustrated by our medical system with going to countless doctor’s appointments, not getting any answers, paying for copays and extensive testing. They came back and said everything was normal. And I just felt like there had to be a different way. And I really started to dive deep into this, this research and this information and try to everything under the sun. And from there really developed my own treatment approach for hormone conditions based off of the research of my training and internship experience.

And then what I saw actually worked in myself and in other people, I then started my career actually in athletics. I was very interested in the role of sports nutrition and combining functional medicine with sports nutrition. And so the first five years of my career, I spent working as a collegiate sports dietitian and did some contract work as a sports dietitian as well. So I am additionally a board certified specialist in sports nutrition. It’s something that I am very passionate about.
