This chronic activation often arises in response to persistent infections or viral reactivation (like Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV), and Streptococcus), autoimmunity, mold mycotoxins, gut dysbiosis, and other chronic inflammation triggers like environmental pollutants. 

When the body is forced to manage these chronic threats, it experiences an energy availability crisis. Because reproduction isn’t essential for immediate survival, energy is diverted toward core functions like maintaining blood pressure, heart rate, and stress hormone output. As a result, the body’s ability to produce and regulate hormones suffers. 

It disrupts steroidogenesis, the process by which hormones like progesterone, estrogens, and cortisol are made. It also impairs the development of ovarian follicles needed for ovulation and essential for fertility. Chronic inflammation even reduces thyroid hormones, which can slow metabolism and energy production. This can lead to fatigue, irregular menstrual cycles, acne, autoimmune conditions, altered blood inflammation markers like elevated C-Reactive Protein or low white blood cell counts (WBC), and even the “period flu” many women feel before their period.
